DOLPHINS OF CARDIGAN BAY (Wales)
Along with the Moray Firth in Scotland, the Cardigan Bay area of West Wales provides excellent dolphin watching opportunites.
Again here there are some spectacular views of dolphins to be had without disturbance.
The resident pod of bottle nose dolphins numbers in the region of 120 individuals and can frequently be spotted from shore along the coast.
Notable places to watch from include Llangranog and Newquay West Wales both of these places offering good land based dolphin sightings.
It is at Newquay that I had my own first dolphin encounter and I was hugely impressed with the quality of the view from this lovely seaside town.
How many places can you sit on the jetty and watch dolphins within a few metres.
The coast line forms part of West Wales Heritage coastline and although a limited number of operators in Newquay offer dolphin watching trips it is important to check that they adhere to eco friendly practices.
It is, in my opinion, far nicer to relax on a rock overlooking the sea and be able to look down upon a wide area of dolphin inhabited space without disturbance, to the dolphins and other wildlife in the area unless going out with a reputable dolphin watching trip..
Boat users and other water goers are asked to operate within the dolphin watching code and
ensure they dont contribute to the dangers faced by the dolphins and other marine wildlife in the area.
